The Quartet

The Quartet were winners of the 2009 Dave Holland Ensemble Award at Birmingham Conservatoire, presented and adjudicated by Dave Holland himself.

We recently performed at Birmingham's newest jazz festival, Harmonic alongside internationally acclaimed artists such as The Claudia Quintet and Soweto Kinch, and at the 2010 Cheltenham Jazz Festival as a headline act.

Dave Greatrex - Guitar
Dave is a guitarist living and playing in the birmingham area. He studied at Birmingham Conservatoire where he was taught by Phil Robson, Dave Cliff, Mike Williams, Hans Koller and Liam Noble. He largely spends his time "writing music and checking things out". As a bandleader he has an innovative and exploratory quintet that has recently been featured in Birmingham Jazz's winter series. Dave is soon to take up a place on a Masters course at Cambridge University researching musicology.

Rob Anstey - Double Bass
Having graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire in 2008 as a trombonist; Rob has become in demand as a bassist around the country. He has played with Carlos Garnett, Neil Yates and Simon Spillett to name a few. In 2009 he toured with Irish singer Camille o'Sullivan and in June 2010 will be touring with NY based saxophonist Ben Bryden.

Jim Bashford - Drums
Also a graduate of the conservatoire, Jim works extensively all over the UK. Later in 2010 he will be touring with a new project of his own featuring internationally acclaimed Icelandic guitarist Hilmar Jensson, bassist Johnny Brierley and prolific saxophonist Robin Finker. Jim has been played on BBC Radio 3 as part of the up and coming Sam Wooster quartet.
